Meet the Team – Peter Holder

ESP caught up with our Product Release Manager, Peter Holder to find out some more about him and his role within the company.
How long have you worked for ESP?
Just over 5 years now, since May 2014.
What was your first role working for ESP?
Implementation and Training Consultant.
You have a background in golf club operations, how did you find this transition moving across to ESP? Did you find this background useful?
Exceedingly useful! Prior to working at ESP I worked across multiple departments of a Golf Club for nearly 10 years; since working at ESP it has been invaluable for me to be able to understand many of the operational needs and challenges that are faced in the industry. The transition was at first daunting, but I quickly realised that there were even more similarities than I first thought and the new role was allowing me to continue to share and consult on best practices but with an even wider range of people.
Tell us about your new role, what does it involve?
My new role of Release Manager is really exciting for me; the main objective is to give structure to the processes for the release of new software and products. This includes being a part of the whole process including consultation on the design, testing of new functionality and communicating the updates to the team and through to customers.
What are some of the projects you are working on?
Currently the largest project underway is the testing of the Android version of our EliteLive mobile phone app; this sounds simple but has been very complex due to how many types of Android phones there are which all operate differently. Alongside this we are also working on enhancements to the Engage communications module and EliteLive to allow members to view and pay for their Membership Renewal Notices and Statements online.
Away from work, what are your hobbies and interests?
I find a good walk or hike is a great way to relax and try to get fitter and I occasionally can be found on the golf course too. I always keep an eye on interesting science research, I love trying to understand the world in which we live. In terms of sports, Formula 1 and rugby would be my pick (watching not playing!)
When you take time off, you always seem to go some amazing destinations, which is your favourite so far and why and what is next on your list?
Undoubtedly the most amazing travel experience so far was trekking to Machu Picchu in Peru, unbelievable scenery, fascinating history and a very rewarding trek. I love destinations with awe inspiring landscapes so next on my list is a more relaxing trip to the Norwegian Fjords.
If you could go out for dinner with any 2 people (past and present) who would they be and why?
Difficult to pick just 2 but I think it would have to be Stephen Fry and Charles Darwin. Stephen for his amazing wit and knowledge and Charles for tales of his worldwide travels.
Any last words?
Being in the new role of Release Manager certainly is exciting and it is great to be a part of a team that is really passionate and always looking to enhance our products. I am confident there are more great enhancements to come!
